We have now started our second project. We are now at the stage of going through all the different textile disciplines in 2 week blocks. For the next two weeks I will be exploring the world of weaving. Or at least some of it. We are required to produce 11 samples from the different warps set up.
Day one was mostly information and hand outs. We also started weaving our first sample. I explored the double cloth pleats. This warp is set up with both cotton threads and silk threads. The weaver can control which threads to use. If you use all of the threads (silk and cotton) you will have a firm weave structure that has a back and front. If you only use one of the thread types. Say cotton, then you weave with only the cotton threads and end up with all of the silk threads lose underneath the weave structure. If you push the weave structure towards you then you will end up with a pleat. Easier to see if there are pictures to show how it looks like. Pics will come soon :)
